Newton Township employs two full-time road maintenance employees. The road
maintenance foreman is Rick Thompson; Chris Summerhill is also employed by the Township as a road maintenance worker.
Newton Township contains over 56 miles of roadways. Of this total, approximately 29 miles constitutes the Township roadway system. The Township Supervisors conduct a road maintenance inspection annually. This inspection enables the Supervisors to determine the extent of improvements required to maintain the roads properly.
The road crew is busy year round with grading and patching roads, cutting brush, cleaning drainage facilities, clearing and cutting road banks, and maintaining the equipment. It is not unusual for the road crew to work extended hours in response to storm related emergencies. In the winter, they are most visible to Township residents during snow removal operations. It is through their efforts our roads are cleared promptly and efficiently. Your patience and cooperation during snow removal operations and our summer maintenance program are greatly appreciated.
